Foundation To Flow is a 5-week beginner shuffle series designed to take you from the basics to confident movement, flow, and freestyle — step by step.
What is Shuffling?
👟 Shuffling is a high-energy dance style that originated in the underground electronic music scene. It’s built on rhythmic footwork, bouncing movement, and traveling patterns — most commonly the 🏃♀️ Running Man and T-Step — danced to electronic music. Shuffling combines cardio, coordination, and creativity, allowing dancers to move freely, build endurance, and develop their own unique style. This course is intentionally slower and more detailed than drop-in classes, giving you the repetition, explanation, and practice time that beginners truly need. What We’ll Cover (Week by Week)
🦋 Week 1 – Shuffle 101: Foundations & Roots We’ll start from the ground up, breaking down the core fundamentals of shuffle including the Running Man, T-Step, posture, bounce, and weight transfer. You’ll also learn a bit about the history and culture of shuffle, so you understand not just how to do the steps, but where they come from.
🦋 Week 2 – Fundamentals Review + Beginner Combos We’ll reinforce the foundations and begin linking steps together into beginner-friendly combos. This week is all about repetition, clarity, and building confidence while learning how to travel and move with intention.
🦋 Week 3 – Cutting Shapes Basics + History You’ll be introduced to cutting shapes, a related style that pairs beautifully with shuffle. We’ll cover basic steps, transitions, and the roots of the style, while continuing to blend shuffle fundamentals into simple combinations.
🦋 Week 4 – Blending Styles & Expanding Combos This week focuses on transitioning smoothly between shuffle and cutting shapes, improving flow, and expanding on the combos you’ve learned. You’ll start to feel more comfortable moving freely and responding to the music.
🦋 Week 5 – From Combos to Flow We’ll bring everything together by practicing full combos, exploring guided freestyle concepts, and learning how to start, continue, and exit movement with confidence. You’ll leave with tools you can use in class, at workshops, or on your own.

💫 Shuffling is a high-impact, cardio-based dance style — expect to sweat!
💫 If you have injuries, joint pain, or mobility concerns, please feel free to reach out ahead of time so we can discuss modifications.
💫 Sneakers are required Best options are lightweight sneakers with smooth bottoms and good shock absorption.
💫 Practice between classes is highly encouraged. Practicing on your own will help build muscle memory, stamina, and technique, and will allow you to get the most out of each week as the course progresses.
