Have you ever wanted to learn choreography from a broadway show?! Have you ever thought to yourself, "I'd love to take Marisa's class but I usually can't make it during the week"? Or have you ever just wanted to be a cat? 🐈🐈⬛🐆
If you answered YES to any of these questions, this course is for you!
In this 5-week course you will learn the Jellicle Ball dance number from CATS the Musical! 🪩🐈 Marisa Paull Gorst, a member of the company of the North American Tour of CATS in 2021-2023, will teach the twelve-minute "Jellicle Ball" dance number that serves as the joyful climax of the show.
👯♀️ The movement is based in ballet and jazz (with some street/hip hop vibes as well) and the full-company ensemble parts are simple enough that one doesn't need to be a professional dancer or an advanced/intermediate dancer in order to execute them with full impact (aka you can be a beginner). There are also sections of the choreography that require skill and will challenge dancers of every level to rise to their best (not everyone need perform every section). And of course, it's in the name, we are explicitly embodying the feline! 😻
As the show's creators insisted, we are not pretending to be cats, we are *acting like* cats, and there's a big difference. The former is silly, the latter, sacred. Part of the journey of this course will be to find one's inner "felinity" and learn what that means to your own body and soul. This will be an emotion-driven experience of movement and a communal expression of our unique power and spirit.
